What exactly does the word adventure mean? It could mean different things for different people, but mostly it means stepping out of your comfort zone. I consider everyday an adventure since I make it my lifetime goal to accomplish something outside my comfort zone every day.
One day I was in my room and my mom called for me to do her a favor. So I walked into her room and she was standing next to her door, away from her bed. She asked me “Jazzmin, can you kill that bug over there by my bed?” So I walk over to her bed to see what in the world she was talking about. All of a sudden I see a huge roach crawling around on a pole that is part of my mom’s bed. Then I backed off with a speed of 25 mph. My mom was telling me about how this bug was notice by her. Apparently she was reading something in her laptop when she heard a buzzing noise and then heard something hit the pole on her bed. My mom and I had no idea what the noise was but only that there was a huge roach next to her bed. Next thing you know this “roach” flew across to the wall next to the bed. My mom and I freaked out! We ran in the next room and grabbed our weapons of war-fly swatter, shoe, & bug spray. My mom and I decided who would get what weapon based on the job. She got the job of swatting the bug. When she noticed that I wasn’t doing my portion of the job to its full potential we switched jobs. So she was to spray and I was to swat. It disappeared and we were not able to find it at all. It tortured us with its disappearing acts. We were able to go downstairs, but not easily. I walked down the stairs while my mom took a few steps and slid. The bug was probably laughing at us trying to run from it. Later we found this “roach” downstairs and tried to attack it with our weapons of his destruction. He flew back and forth between walls and we ducked and dove, swatted and sprayed, and ran and hide, until we finally hit it with the spray and it became weak. Finally, I used my swatting powers to destroy its reign of terror in our home. After dosing our house in bug spray and falling down stairs the Browne family terrorist was executed.
This was an adventure for me and my family because we have NEVER experience or seen a Palmetto bug until that day. “Fighting” this bug was definitely not in our comfort zones. When I tell people this story, I tell them that it was like the movie 300 because when we tried to kill the Palmetto bug (aka flying roach) we looked like we were in the front row of a war crowd. I applaud the people who have battle this Palmetto bug and have had this adventure like us. But for those who haven’t, good luck. It wasn’t the best of experiences
